Animal Care Internships

Animal Care Intern

Fulfilling an Animal Care Internship with Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary will give you the unique opportunity to learn from and interact with our residents at the sanctuary, gain knowledge of farmed animals and their behaviors and needs, and learn the basics of running a sanctuary. You will work to help farmed animals in need while gaining valuable professional and personal experience. Your responsibilities will primarily be in the areas of animal feeding and watering, contributing to sanctuary security, and assisting with animal health care. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Animal feeding and watering
  • Daily cleaning of barns and enclosures, and pastures when needed
  • Maintaining neat and organized work and storage spaces
  • Ensuring all tools and other items are put away at the end of the day
  • Assisting with animal health checks when possible
  • Animal monitoring for special needs residents and residents in quarantine
  • Additional non-animal related tasks as needed

Qualifications

 

  • Good animal behavior observation skills
  • Ability to work in harsh/all weather conditions
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and meet animal care schedules
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people

Enrichment Intern

The Enrichment Intern will play a strong role in creating a fulfilling life for our residents at the sanctuary. Enrichment is a vital part of mental stimulation and entertainment for our residents! It also creates the opportunity for more connection and communication between our staff and the residents we care for. Because our residents come from a background of abuse and neglect, this program is especially valuable in communicating they are safe, loved, and valued as equals at the sanctuary. Volunteer work will include assisting our Care Team Enrichment Lead in creating, implementing, and tracking enrichment plans for our residents to further our goals and mission. While Enrichment interns may also have opportunities to assist with other sanctuary projects, the majority of the volunteer time will be focused on enrichment work. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Research projects
  • Documenting progress of each resident in their program
  • Assisting with the design and implementation of enrichment programs
  • Data Entry
  • Managing and Maintaining program materials (cones, toys, etc.)

Nonprofit Administration Internships

Office Management Intern

The Office Management Department at Luvin Arms is responsible for administrative responsibilities such as scheduling maintenance appointments for sanctuary grounds, maintaining sanctuary files, data entry, and assisting with other tasks as assigned. Administrative support allows the sanctuary to function efficiently, and makes it possible for us to reach visitors with our mission and vision. As an intern, you will learn to provide support to multiple departments within a nonprofit organization. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Maintaining filing system across multiple departments
  • Data entry 
  • File and Organize documents in Google Drive
  • Scheduling appointments for regular maintenance of sanctuary grounds

Nonprofit Management Intern

The Nonprofit Management at Luvin Arms is responsible for managing day-to-day functions of the sanctuary, making decisions that limit liability, managing staff, and fundraising. This allows the sanctuary to function efficiently, and makes it possible for us to reach visitors with our mission and vision. As an intern, you will work closely with the Executive Director to manage a variety of tasks. 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Coordinate with Office Management intern to assure projects for Executive Director’s Office are completed
  • Creating schedule for multiple departments
  • Managing Executive Director’s calendar
  • Phone call and correspondence projects
  • Assisting the Executive in preparation for media interviews, board meetings, etc. 
  • Other tasks as assigned by Executive Director 

Qualifications:

Development & Marketing Internships

Development Intern

The Development Intern will play a strong role in one of the most vital parts of running a nonprofit organization, fundraising. Volunteer work will include assisting with fundraising campaign design, implementation, and other administrative tasks as needed. This intern will work closely with both the Development & Marketing Coordinator and Executive Director to help shape Luvin Arm’s donor relations and further our goals and mission. While Development interns may also have opportunities to assist with other communications projects (determined by applicants’ skills and previous experience as well as organizational needs during their internship), the majority of the volunteer time will be focused on fundraising work.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Assist in the design and development of fundraising campaigns
  • Design of mailings and other paper materials
  • Research projects as assigned
  • Writing, packing, and mailing various fundraising materials
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Experience with graphic design a plus, but not required
  • Passion for personal connection
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills needed to manage working with an off-site supervisor

Social Media and Marketing Intern

Do you care about farmed animals and aspire to develop a career in social networking? Then join the Luvin Arms team as our social media intern! You’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate your talent and build the experience and successful track record you need to advance your social media and marketing career. We are looking for a part- or full-time intern to translate our mission and core values into ideas and executable plans to engage online audiences in the social media space, and produce measurable results in expanding our community and support base.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing a social media strategy
  • Assist with developing social media posts
  • Establish measurements and success metrics for social networking initiatives
  • Translate the day-to-day realities and issues of our organization into engaging stories and effective campaigns to engage and expand our online community and support base
  • Assist the Development Director with marketing and media relations initiatives as needed
  • Provide special event help as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience developing engaging social media content on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest
  • Experience reporting on social media performance
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills

Photo and Video Intern

The Photo and Video Intern will play a strong role in creating a window into sanctuary life through photography and videography at our sanctuary. Volunteer work will include capturing photos and video footage of our sanctuary residents, documenting rescue stories, and highlighting sanctuary milestones. This intern will work closely with both the Education & Outreach team and Media team to help shape Luvin Arms’ image and further our goals and mission. While Photo and Video interns may also have opportunities to assist with other communications projects (determined by applicants’ skills and previous experience as well as organizational needs during their internship), the majority of the volunteer time will be focused on photography and videography work.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Photography and videography of residents at the sanctuary
  • Documenting rescue stories and Luvin Arms’ milestones
  • Handling photo and video needs for other volunteer and visitor programs
  • Toning, retouching, and watermarking digital photos
  • Sizing images for print and web
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Experience with animal photography/videography
  • Experience handling photo/video work at events
  • Passion for communicating compelling stories through a visual medium
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills needed to manage working with an off-site supervisor

Community Engagement Intern

Luvin Arms is seeking someone passionate about farmed animals and volunteerism to join our team as a Community Engagement Intern! Our community is a huge part of the sanctuary as an organization, and continually serves our mission. The foundation of the sanctuary was laid by 35 volunteers who came prepared to assist a family with a vision and passion for providing sanctuary to all beings. Since that day, providing support for our community who supports the sanctuary and our mission became a vital part of our culture.

At Luvin Arms, we empower our community of volunteers to find the opportunities that bring them joy, and provide them with the tools they need to succeed. As a Community Engagement Intern, you will collaborate with our Roots organization, staff, and management to create and maintain our community connection and engagement.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Volunteer & Events Manager with community engagement through Facebook, Mailchimp, and other programs
  • Assist with Roots program tracking, data interpretation, and reporting
  • Assist Volunteer & Events Manager by maintaining Roots calendar
  • Provide support at events and/or meetings as needed
  • Research & phone call assistance

  • Shadow and co-lead volunteer orientations and other program trainings
  • Assist with volunteer program tracking and data interpretation and reporting
  • Collaborate on program and opportunity marketing (Mailchimp campaigns, flyers, etc)
  • Provide support at volunteer potlucks and/or meetings as needed

Visitor Experience Intern

The Education and Outreach Department at Luvin Arms is responsible for the experience of guests visiting the sanctuary, tours of the sanctuary, educational programming, and educational events. Through all these programs, thousands of guests come to meet our residents and learn more about Luvin Arm’s work and mission. As an intern, you will gain experience by providing event support, speaking to guests and visitors about plant-based living and farmed animal issues, and contributing to our visitor education efforts.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Staffing visitor center and gift shop, including welcoming guests and answering questions on factory farming, plant-based living, and sustainability
  • Maintaining visitor center facilities with some cleaning duties
  • Prepare vegan food samples for visitor sampling
  • Assisting with Luvin Arms events, including pre-event preparation and day of event assistance
  • Internet research projects
  • Phone call and correspondence projects
  • Assisting with guided tours of the sanctuary, with possibility of acting as independent tour guide
